Neck Pain Treatment in Brighton & Hove

We use Clinical massage, the neck and shoulder girdle pain protocols together with myofascial release as a proven effective treatment method for neck and shoulders pain.

Presentations that are also included here are, headaches

and dizziness, pain in neck & shoulder radiating down the arm and tinnitus or ear pain.

We take a science-based whole body approach in our treatments, which are relaxing and effective.

Our treatments focus both on specific work around the problem area and broader work addressing restrictions everywhere else in the body that might be contributing

to the presentation. This treatment method creates long lasting results in a short period of time.

The clinical massage therapist will use tools like Myofascial release and trigger point work among others to obtain significant results in 1-6 sessions.

We tend to see immediate results in 80% of cases and we expect to see significant results by week 4 in the majority of the cases.

Neck Pain Treatment

Neck pain treatment Brighton

Our treatment method

During the first session, the therapist will carry out a postural assessment as well as range of motion assessment and pain assessment when needed in order to choose the appropriate treatment plan for you. These will be reassessed at the beginning of each follow up session as well.

The treatment method consists of advanced myofascial release techniques, trigger point work and advanced stretching techniques, combined and executed using a whole body approach whereby the whole body is considered as one interrelated unit and included in the treatment as necessary. This increases the effectiveness of the treatment and it produces long lasting results.

Using the Neck & shoulder and the Shoulder Girdle pain protocols as work foundation, most of the work will be concentrated on the neck, upper and middle back, chest and shoulder area although as mentioned above the whole body will be addressed as needed.

The therapist’s focus will be releasing the pain levels and any other related symptoms the patient is presenting with, as well as releasing secondary structures that might be contributing to the development of the presentation.

Understanding the Neck

The neck constitutes the beginning of the spine, the most mobile portion of it, consisting of 7 vertebrae that connect the head to the torso.

The average weight of the human head is 5Kg or 11Lbs all of that balanced on 7 vertebrae in the neck and supported by around 20 muscles, responsible for moving it around and provide stability. Not easy! This leaves the neck in a quite vulnerable position and it explains why so many issues develop in this area.

Some of the most common musculoskeletal problems in the neck are:

– Neck spasm

– Whiplash

– Herniated disc

– Muscle sprain

– Trigger points and myofascial restrictions

Humans walk in two foot leaving a big distance between the feet and the head, which is balancing on the neck. Even though this is a very simplistic way of looking at how the structure of a human body behaves, imagine that the body is a structure in balance, like a stack of sticks on a jumbo game.

Restrictions or imbalances anywhere along the body will affect the balance of the head over the neck. When the head is not in the right position and leans either forward, backwards or sideways, the amount of force that exerts over the neck increases. This constant strain of the neck causes trigger points and restrictions to develop and can be the cause of a herniated disc or a muscle sprain.

The job of the therapist is releasing the neck muscles and fascia and also identifying and correcting other imbalances and restrictions along the body that are contributing to the loading of the neck.
