Whiplash Treatment

Whiplash Treatment in Brighton & Hove
We use Clinical massage, the neck and shoulder pain protocol together with myofascial release as a proven effective treatment method for the treatment of whiplash symptoms.
Due to the acute nature of this condition, the treatment approach
can be quite different for different people and it’s adjusted to each person’s unique presentation in order to get the most out of it.
We take a science-based whole body approach in our treatments, which are relaxing and effective.
Our treatments focus both on specific work around the problem area and broader work addressing restrictions everywhere else in the body that might be contributing
to the presentation. This treatment method creates long lasting results in a short period of time.
The clinical massage therapist will use tools like Myofascial release and trigger point work among others to obtain significant results in 1-6 sessions.
In general, we tend to see immediate results in 80% of cases and we expect to see significant results by week 4 in the majority of the cases.

Our treatment method
During the first session, the therapist will carry out a complete assessment, including postural assessment as well as range of motion assessment and pain assessment when needed in order to choose the appropriate treatment plan. In this case, the therapist will also want to know about the nature of the accident that triggered the whiplash symptoms.
These will be reassessed at the beginning of each follow up session as well if needed.
Due to the acute nature of the presentation, most of the initial work in this case will be focused on the neck and shoulder area. The treatment method consists of advanced myofascial release techniques primarily, combined with trigger point work and advanced stretching techniques as needed.
As it’s the case in all our treatments, the therapist will use a whole body approach whereby the whole body is considered as one interrelated unit and included in the treatment as necessary. This increases the effectiveness of the treatment and it produces long lasting results.
The therapist’s focus will be releasing the pain levels and any other related symptoms the patient is presenting with, like dizziness or headaches.

Whiplash explained
Whiplash is a neck injury due to forceful, quick back and forth movement of the neck.
Commonly caused by car accidents, but it can also result from a fall, sports injury or physical abuse.
It can sort itself out in a few weeks, but some people with whiplash have chronic neck pain and other associated symptoms.
The most common symptoms are:
– Neck pain & stiffness
– Loss of range of movement
– Increased pain with movement
– Headaches most starting at the base of the skull.
– Pain in shoulders, upper back or arms
– Tingling or numbness in the arm
– Dizziness
– Ringing of the ears (tinnitus)
– Fatigue
The sudden forceful movement characteristic in a whiplash can injure bones in the spine, discs in the spine, ligaments, nerve, muscle and other tissue in the neck.
With clinical massage, consisting of mainly trigger point work and myofascial release, the therapist is able to release the soft tissue (muscles, tendons, ligaments) that has been triggered by the sudden movement, releasing this way the related symptoms mentioned above.
